The lovable Rubber Duck (Rubber Duck), which embodies love and peace, arrived at Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier on September 19, attracting large crowds. After news outlets like the Associated Press and Agence France-Presse covered the opening event, CNN Travel also featured it prominently on its official website on September 24. Kaohsiung City Government spokesperson Lai Jui-long, in an interview with CNN reporter Maggie, stated that Kaohsiung’s boundless enthusiasm moved artist Florentijn Hofman, leading to the selection of Kaohsiung as the Taiwanese debut location for the Rubber Duck. It is estimated that over 3 million visitors will flock to Glory Pier to catch a glimpse of the iconic duck.

On the homepage of CNN Travel’s official website, the headline “Giant duck conquers Taiwan” spotlights how the Rubber Duck came to Kaohsiung, along with details about its exhibition. It includes two photos provided by the Kaohsiung City Government. The report notes that the Rubber Duck’s appearance in Kaohsiung is a major event for Taiwan. This super cute yellow duck has been stationed 24/7 at Glory Pier, and in just five days, 500,000 people have visited to see it. The month-long exhibition, running until October 20, is expected to generate over NT$1 billion in tourism revenue.

Lai Jui-long told CNN that the 18-meter-tall Rubber Duck is entirely Made in Taiwan (MIT), exceeding Hofman’s specifications. It only takes seven minutes to fully inflate. The city government team and technical experts have prepared emergency measures for all possible scenarios. Notably, knowing that the Rubber Duck encountered minor technical issues during exhibitions in Hong Kong and Beijing, every step has been tested at least three times to ensure the duck's safety throughout the event. In the future, the city government team will also share experiences and technical insights with other Taiwanese cities hosting the exhibition, continuing to spread the message of love and peace embodied by the duck.
