The “Choose a Good Name Together” campaign for Taipei City Zoo’s giant panda cub has been open for voting since September 14 and will run until September 29. Nearly 30,000 people have already cast their votes. The Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and Taipei City Zoo jointly announced today that they will add 50 VIP priority visit tickets for the panda cub as a thank-you bonus gift for voters, hoping to attract more netizens to join the voting before the campaign ends on October 15.

The Department of Information and Tourism stated that among the six candidate names selected in the preliminary round of the giant panda cub “Choose a Good Name Together” campaign — “Pink Tuan,” “Soup Tuan,” “Yuan Zai,” “Yuan Zai Hua,” “Yuan Bao,” and “Reunion” — “Yuan Zai” currently remains the most popular, receiving over 65% of all votes. The second-place name, “Yuan Bao,” has around a 20% vote share, followed by “Yuan Zai Hua,” “Pink Tuan,” “Reunion,” and “Soup Tuan.”
The zoo expressed that, in gratitude for netizens’ love for the giant panda cub and support for the naming campaign, in addition to the original 45 “Naming Campaign Prize Packages” — each including one panda cub sticky note, one postcard, one EasyCard sticker, and one fan as a stationery set — 50 VIP priority visit tickets for the panda cub are now being added as an extra thank-you gift. Each VIP ticket allows two people to visit the panda cub and receive a box of panda-patterned fried dough snacks. The visit date is tentatively scheduled for January of the Year 103 (2014) during the zoo’s appreciation evening event, held before the panda cub is officially opened to the public. However, the exact date has not yet been confirmed due to the panda cub’s growth status. All winners will be informed at least one month in advance.
