To benefit office workers who eat out for all three meals, the Taipei City Government has launched the hot-off-the-press “Taipei Bento Treasure Map.” It also offers an iPad mini and over NT$12,000 in gift vouchers, inviting the public to start from now until October 26 to follow the map, hunt for bento, and join the fun of winning prizes. Additionally, the “Champion Bento Ranking Competition” to be held at the Expo Dome on October 26–27 will select the champion chicken leg bento and pork rib bento, with total prizes worth NT$69,000. Registration is open from now until October 20.

The selection process for the “Taipei Bento Treasure Map” brochure was quite strict. The Department of Commerce first collected candidate bento shops through Facebook from June 6 to July 7, either via self-nominations by shops or recommendations from the public’s taste buds, gathering a total of 307 bento shops. Next, through a district-by-district questionnaire survey across 12 administrative districts, 100 top bento shops were screened out. Among them, 52 shops were willing to participate in the series of marketing activities and completed guidance from the Health Bureau.
Taipei City Department of Commerce Director Huang Yiyi stated that to avoid missing any hidden gems and to uncover more high-quality local bento options, a second wave of the “Group Bento Collection” campaign will be launched. This time, the approach will be more proactive, gathering group bento shops favored by corporate buyers, travel transport staff, and welfare committee members. Up to 50 bento shops are expected to be selected for the “Treasure Map Part 2 – Group Bento Favorites,” which will be launched by the end of October. The goal is to find the “most wanted” high-quality bento shops for drivers, groups, or meetings.
This time, the Taipei Department of Commerce has partnered with special bento shops across Taiwan, including chain stores such as “Wu Tao,” “Hu Xu Zhang,” “Ming De Vegetarian Garden,” and “National Vegetarian Buffet,” as well as healthy boxed meals like “Yuan Li Xiang,” locally sourced “Original Flavor Bento,” the first direct-operated bento shop built by farmers, fishermen, and livestock producers “Tian He Xian Wu,” the healthy rice bowl brand “A Zi Rice Kitchen,” the Japanese-style curry “CHIFFON,” and the originator of Wanhua pork rib rice “Jin Man Yuan Pork Ribs,” totaling 365 shops. They have launched the “Bento with a Gift, iPad mini for You” marketing campaign. From now until October 26, simply visit any of the participating or treasure map shops across Taiwan, take a photo with the shop environment or products, upload it to the event website, and note the shop name for a chance to win an iPad mini.
Additionally, from now until October 26, simply visit any participating or treasure map shops in Taipei City or New Taipei City, check in and like the post. For every three shops checked in, you can enter a lucky draw once at the “2013 Taipei Trendy Bento Carnival” to be held at the Expo Dome on October 26–27.
