Jiaoxi is located at the northeast tip of Yilan County, with fertile land and abundant water resources, making it suitable not only for agriculture and aquaculture but also with great tourism potential. The famous Jiaoxi Hot Springs were discovered and enclosed for bathing as early as the Wu Sha land reclamation period, known as "Tangwei." During the Japanese colonial era, the hot springs began to be used commercially, and the hot spring tourism industry has remained thriving ever since. Planned and built by Yilan County Government, Tangwei Gully Hot Spring Park is different from the luxurious hot spring hotels along Jiaoxi Street. It is an affordable, public-friendly hot spring bath, allowing everyone to enjoy the convenience of “hot springs right in the park.” The park features men’s and women’s public nude hot spring areas, a play area, walking paths, a foot soaking zone, and a hot spring corridor. The park landscape adopts a Japanese garden architectural style, and the open-use hot spring concept returns to the carefree joy of soaking. With considerate service until midnight, it allows visitors to come as they please and leave fully satisfied, also lighting up Jiaoxi’s streets at night.

Jiaoxi Household Registration Office — A Surprisingly Surreal Government Building
Driving through Jiaoxi Street, it’s hard not to notice the futuristic and eye-catching Jiaoxi Household Registration Office and Health Center. Architect Huang Shengyuan, who has worked in Yilan for many years, uses twisted massive pillars and protruding extended floors to create a dynamic sense of space in what would otherwise be a rigid office environment. The overall building incorporates the concept of “wandering through the mountains and forests,” with no clear boundaries between floors, breaking the conventional square layout. Visitors coming here for business feel as if they are strolling through mountain trails — quite an amusing experience.
Whether it's the use of raw steel bars as stair railings or columns covered with large amounts of blue tiles, the experimental use of various materials is evident everywhere. The office is not surrounded by obvious walls, making it easy for even out-of-town visitors to drop by and explore.
