For many travelers, riding a premium sleeper train is not about saving on hotel costs or time, but rather about fulfilling the rare dream of spending a noble night on the railway. In addition to Japan’s famous sleeper trains such as the Hokutosei, Twilight Express, and the luxurious Cassiopeia, the “Seven Stars in Kyushu,” built with an investment of 3 billion yen, set off on its first journey on the 15th of this month. The highly confidential exterior design and interior fittings of the Seven Stars in Kyushu have now been revealed to all sleeper train enthusiasts.

Featuring a retro-luxurious blend of Japanese and Western styles created through the use of wood and carpet, the Seven Stars in Kyushu has only 14 compartments in total — one luxury Suite A, one luxury Suite B, and 12 standard suites — accommodating a total of 28 passengers. In addition, an open observation deck is located at the front of the train, while the center offers seating where passengers can relax and enjoy the luxurious space, with various performance events also scheduled to take place there.
Positioned as a luxury sleeper train, the Seven Stars in Kyushu also has certain requirements for passengers. First, participants must be at least middle school age. Wearing jeans or slippers is not allowed in the dining car or public areas, and smoking is prohibited throughout the train to ensure the overall quality of the travel experience.

The Seven Stars in Kyushu offers two types of itineraries: a 4-day, 3-night trip and a 2-day, 1-night trip. Each runs once a week, departing from Hakata Station and visiting popular destinations such as Yufuin, Miyazaki, Kirishima, Kumamoto, and Aso. The former costs between NT$115,000 and NT$170,000, while the latter is about NT$46,000 to NT$67,000. However, all slots for the first half of next year are already fully booked, and registration for the second half of next year will open in January.
