The Yellow Duck that made its debut at the Taoyuan County Land Art Festival last weekend has recently been affected by overhead power lines in front, resulting in “three lines” or a “music staff” appearing on its face in photos, which has drawn complaints from many netizens. Although Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman expressed that he is happy to see the Duck blend into the local original landscape and does not believe the exhibition environment needs to be altered because of the Duck’s presence, the organizers, in order to allow visitors to take beautiful photos of the Duck, worked with the power company to complete the lowering of some cables in front of the Duck’s face after 17:00 today.

The first Taoyuan County Land Art Festival, adhering to the principles of respecting local characteristics and hoping that artworks blend into the local landscape, has created a fence-free art gallery centered around pond culture. Now in its fourth day, the event has attracted over 750,000 visitors cumulatively over three days, with considerable crowds even on weekdays—yesterday (28th), more than 200,000 people visited to admire the artworks.

The row of power lines in front of the Yellow Duck, which has been widely criticized recently, includes three high-voltage lines above its head that are part of Xinyi Township’s basic power distribution system, mainly supplying electricity for local residents’ daily use. These do not affect photo opportunities with the Yellow Duck or the entrance sculpture, so they have been retained. However, the power lines in front of the Duck’s face—comprising grounding and streetlight lines, cable TV wires, and telecom transmission cables—have been lowered in height through the proactive cooperation of the telecom and power companies. This engineering work does not affect the original functions, and after the event, the original power lines will be restored. It has been confirmed that before the event starts tomorrow (30th), the public will be able to see the Yellow Duck with only the three high-voltage lines in front, allowing visitors to happily take beautiful photos with the Duck.
