The Ferris wheel-centered Swords Lake World New Year’s Eve fireworks have officially entered their seventh year. This year and next—2013 and 2014—sound like “yi sheng yi shi” (一生一世), meaning “one life, one lifetime,” a unique phrase symbolizing everlasting love. To mark this special meaning, Swords Lake World has gone all out to scale up its countdown event. To welcome the only romantic year of this century, this year’s theme is “Love Wheel” (a homophone for “lover”), further incorporating the “Sky Shuttle” to compose a love story as the theme of the fireworks display, creating a unique New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacle.

On Taiwan’s largest Ferris wheel, the fireworks will spell out the shape of “I 'd U,” presenting a romantic scene of the Ferris wheel expressing its love to the Sky Shuttle, which responds with dazzling fireworks from its height of 65 meters above ground. The entire fireworks show also features heart-shaped, rose, and bouquet-shaped fireworks accompanied by music, crafting eight love-themed fireworks sequences: “Heavenly Thunder and Earthly Fire,” “2014 Love You for a Lifetime,” “Blooming Hearts,” “Eyes of the God of Love,” “Starry Splendor,” “Chasing Love,” “Vows of Eternal Love,” and “Symphony of Happiness,” retracing the journey of lovers from meeting, falling in love, deepening affection, to pledging lifelong commitment.
Beyond the romantic fireworks, Swords Lake World has also increased its budget this year to create Taiwan’s first 610-second Love Wheel magical beam light show. First, the fireworks duration has been extended from 600 to 610 seconds, making the whole show last a full “ten minutes and ten seconds,” symbolizing the sweet meaning of being “10 out of 10 perfect.” At the same time, 32 cabins on the Ferris wheel will be equipped with spotlights, and the Ferris Square will be fitted with paper flower launchers. As the fireworks go off, they’ll be interspersed with magical beams of light, and at the end, the entire park will be showered with paper flowers, recreating the New Year’s Eve atmosphere of London’s Eye and New York’s Times Square. The number of fireworks shells launched exceeds last year’s count by nearly 10,000, and the fireworks coverage area has also expanded beyond last year’s range. Centered around the Ferris wheel and Sky Shuttle and extending outward on both sides by at least four times, it forms a spectacular semi-circular mountain fireworks display.
In addition, Swords Lake World’s New Year’s Eve party breaks away from previous years’ format of having famous singers count down the finale. Instead, it invites actress Lin Meixiu from the Taiwanese film “Zone Pro Site: The Moveable Feast” to make her debut with a lively performance of “Golden Cursing Man,” getting everyone in Central Taiwan hyped for the countdown. The lineup of singers includes the romantic vocals of Olivia to warm the hearts of people across Taiwan, along with powerhouse vocalists Fu Qiongyin and Lin Xinyi, who will perform energetically. Additionally, crystal ball stunts and diabolo performances will take the stage. The whole evening show lasts 18,000 seconds—watch performances while enjoying amusement rides. Swords Lake World is creating Taiwan’s most spectacular New Year’s Eve event.
On December 31st, New Year’s Eve, the amusement rides will operate from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Daytime admission is offered at a discounted price of 799 NTD, after 12:00 PM at 399 NTD, and after 9:00 PM at just 299 NTD. Swords Lake World’s online store has also started selling New Year’s Eve couple tickets today—just 650 NTD for two, available for a limited time and in limited quantities.
