The Taichung City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau will host the “2013 Happy Taichung 'Charity Christmas Concert'” at 18:00 on December 21st and has organized a charity gift box collection campaign. The performance features artists such as Yin Zhengyang, Yili KaoLu, and South Africa’s Wailing Soul reggae band. Entry is free and no tickets are required. The first 1,000 people attending the concert with a charity gift box will receive a small green plant presented by the Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Taichung Mayor Hu Zhiqiang stated that the Cultural Affairs Bureau hopes to collect 1,000 charity gift boxes this year through the Christmas Concert, to be given to children in remote areas and underprivileged families, so that everyone can have a joyful Christmas. The collected gift boxes will be distributed after the concert to various social welfare organizations including Guangyin Children's Home, Qili Youth Home, Ganlin Social Welfare Charity Foundation, as well as to hospitalized children at Art Highlight Hospitals. Distribution will also include the remote Lishan area. Charity gift boxes do not need excessive packaging; suggested items include stationery, toys, books, and warm clothing.
Last year’s Happy Taichung Christmas Concert pioneered the large-scale charity gift box collection campaign, receiving an enthusiastic response from the public. Schools such as Dadun Junior High School, Daxin Elementary School, Dadun Elementary School, Taiping Elementary School, Yuren Primary School, Huiwen Elementary School, and Nantun Elementary School actively participated. In total, over 2,000 gift boxes were collected, almost filling the Fulfillment Amphitheatre. These boxes were delivered by special vehicles during Christmas to remote schools and social welfare institutions including Lishan Junior and Senior High Schools, Pingdeng Elementary School, Guangyin Children's Home, Cixin Youth Home, Qili Youth Home, and Ganlin Foundation. The joyful smiles of the children upon receiving the gifts were deeply moving, making it a wonderful lesson in love through care and sharing.
This year, the Cultural Affairs Bureau continues the theme of “Caring with Love, Sharing Happiness” for the Christmas Concert. The performance features a strong lineup, bringing together domestic and international musical talents such as Yin Zhengyang, Yili KaoLu, Japan’s Civilian Skunk band, and South Africa’s Wailing Soul reggae band, along with outstanding local groups. Musical少女庄品tD and caring school doctor Fang Yun will also perform on stage. The bureau is also recruiting music-loving citizens willing to share love to form a “Citizens’ Symphony Orchestra and Choir,” which will perform Christmas medleys such as “A Heart of Gratitude” and “Silent Night” during the event.
