Last year’s visitor count surpassed DisneySea; Universal Studios Japan ranks fourth in the world

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) recently announced,in 2015, its attendance exceeded Tokyo DisneySea for the first time, ranking fourthin the world, a one-place rise from the previous year. In fact, an earlier survey also showed that among the most popular Japanese tourist destinations for foreign visitors, USJ came in first, followed by Tokyo Disneyland.
USJ made this announcement on the 26th. According to a report by Kyodo News, USJ in Osaka saw a surge in attendance thanks to the popularity of its “Harry Potter” area and limited-time events. The Themed Entertainment Association reported,USJ’s attendance increased by 17.8% year-on-year to 13.9 million, surpassing Tokyo DisneySea in fifth place, which had 13.6 million visitors (down 3.5% year-on-year).。

Meanwhile,Tokyo Disneyland saw a 4.0% year-on-year decline to 16.6 million visitors, ranking third.First place went to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, USA, second to Disneyland in California, USA, while USJ in the U.S. ranked tenth.
In fact, an earlier second edition of the “Overseas Market Survey Report” released by Japan’s RJC Research and Nightley also showedthat among the most popular Japanese tourist destinations for foreign visitors, Universal Studios Japan came in first, followed by Tokyo Disneyland,third was Tokyo Tower, fourth Senso-ji Temple, and fifth was Tokyo DisneySea.
