The giant panda cub "Yuan Zai," who made her official public debut this Monday, not only drew nearly 10,000 visitors on her first day but also sparked a craze among Taiwanese media and the public that reached international media outlets, including CNN in the United States, Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun, and Asahi Shimbun, all of which reported on Yuan Zai. Among them, CNN went into detail about the meanings behind the names “Yuan Zai,” “Tuan Tuan,” and “Yuan Yuan,” helping foreign tourists learn more about Taiwan’s current most popular healing mascot.

According to Taipei Zoo, on the day of Yuan Zai’s first public appearance, by around 9:00 AM when the zoo opened, there were already over a thousand people waiting at the entrance. By the time the zoo closed at 4:00 PM, approximately 9,563 visitors had entered, with every Yuan Zai fan getting to see the adorable cub in person.
