As the Lunar New Year approaches, the Taipei City Government has introduced three major themed events this year: “Taipei Lunar New Year Street,” “Taipei Spring Festival Shopping Month,” and “World Trade Lunar New Year Exhibition – Taipei Lunar New Year Theme Pavilion.” In partnership with hypermarkets, department stores, and over a hundred shops, they have also launched the “Come to Taipei for a Great New Year” Lunar New Year Shopping Passport, offering discounts totaling over NT$100,000. It can be collected for free from January 10 at Taipei City Tourist Service Centers, district offices, and international airports.

This year’s “Taipei Lunar New Year Street” includes nine major shopping districts: Dihua, Ningxia, Houtuo, Taipei Underground Mall, Huayin, Rongbin, Ximen, Yuanlin, and Siping. Each district showcases its unique characteristics and launches festive activities targeting different groups. The historically rich Dihua District attracts crowds with nearly a hundred stalls offering festive goods over 19 days. As for the much-anticipated “lucky gold” every year, this year features a creative twist—visitors can fold their own rocking horse shape, and if the gold one-dollar coin is revealed on the horse’s back upon completion, it symbolizes the auspicious meaning of “instant wealth.” The Taipei City Government team will visit six major districts to distribute blessings on January 18, 26, and 27.
This year, the Taipei City Government has partnered with hypermarkets, department stores, and local shops to launch the “Spring Festival Shopping Month” event. Hypermarkets such as Carrefour, RT-Mart, and A-mart are focusing on the pre-holiday “TV upgrade” trend, each offering attractive discount promotions. Among them, Carrefour offers the biggest savings, with the RANSO 50T LCD monitor + PHILIPS 3D Blu-ray home theater set originally priced at NT$44,800, now available for NT$32,888 from January 24 to 30. Department stores are also joining in, with eight major department stores offering early-bird gifts and dessert vouchers for purchases over certain amounts. On January 31, visitors with the Lunar New Year Shopping Passport or HAPPY GO card can exchange invoices of any amount at Pacific SOGO Department Store for moricaca or Baoquan Japanese sweets lucky bags. On the same day, Takashimaya Department Store offers a New Year’s lucky red envelope for purchases over NT$888.
Additionally, some Taipei City shops are offering discounts close to 50% off retail prices. For example, the “Mingjiao Tea House” flavor gift box, originally priced at NT$1,640 for two boxes, is now NT$920. At “Fengdecun,” tea purchases come with an 20% discount. “Quanfa Honey” classic mini honey is NT$49, down from the original NT$100. “Peony Garden” offers a free serving of the NT$220 soft-shell crab skewer roll with any in-store purchase.
This year, Taipei’s East District is also full of Lunar New Year spirit. With the opening of the Xinyi Line MRT boosting foot traffic and business in the area, the Taipei City Government, in collaboration with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, is hosting the first World Trade Lunar New Year Exhibition from January 16 to 22. The event features a “Taipei Lunar New Year Theme Pavilion,” inviting nearly 40 well-known Taipei businesses to participate. With three themed streets—New Year dishes, gifts, and fun—and image exhibition halls, it offers a variety of displays. Qingqing Gourmet Garden Club offers Buddha Jumps Over the Wall originally priced at NT$8,880, now NT$5,280, and Ruan’s Dried Meat, originally NT$250, now NT$200. During the exhibition period, there are also giveaways such as limited-edition Yuanbao (lucky pig) cards, scratch cards, and MRT ride coupons.
