From now until the end of February is the perfect season for flower-viewing trips, as vibrant floral seas across Taiwan gradually come into bloom. To expand the scope of the floral landscape, the Kaohsiung City Government’s Civil Affairs Bureau has introduced the concept of a “Grand Floral Sea Area,” linking the flower planting zones in Meinong, Shanlin, and Liouguei through transportation routes and nearby attractions. At the same time, the bureau has incorporated local characteristics into tour itineraries, creating an ideal “backyard garden” for spring outings and leisure during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Meinong District Office will hold the opening ceremony of the three-district floral sea for the first time on January 19, staging the “2014 Meinong Colorful Earth — Flowers, Love, and Happiness Journey” at Zhongzheng Lake in Meinong. This year, with the theme “Discovering Flower-Rich Meinong,” the district office will launch a hot air balloon ride activity in the open areas of the flower fields, allowing visitors to admire the vast blooms from a bird’s-eye perspective. The event will also feature orange-honey tomato picking, white radish harvesting, local food tastings, as well as exciting performances and interactive games.

Next, Shanlin District Office will host its flower sea opening event on January 25 in front of the Shanlin Farmers’ Association on Qingshui Road, Shanlin District, showcasing a sea of sunflowers along with the cultural charm of Hoklo, Hakka, and indigenous communities, as well as local agricultural specialties and crafts, to offer visitors a taste of true happiness. Liouguei District Office has planted beautiful floral displays along both sides of the Qilu Highway to welcome tourists, and in Baolai area, visitors can also witness magnificent mountainous plum blossoms. Tourists can plan a trip to Liouguei to enjoy the flowers and pair it with a relaxing soak in the hot springs. Additionally, Xinyi Forest Park will present a colorful foliage show in March, where visitors can enjoy birdwatching in the morning, rest at noon, and take leisurely strolls along serene tree-lined paths to experience the unique charm of the three districts.
