From October to March each year, a vast freshwater lake in Kumphawapi District, Udon Thani Province, Thailand, comes alive, turning into a vivid and stunning sea of red as thousands of lotus flowers bloom across the water's surface. During this time, the entire lake transforms into a grand recreational paradise.

Nong Harn Lake is the most important water source of the Nam Pao River. The entire lakeside area boasts abundant fish, wildlife, and aquatic plants, making it a vital lifeline for the local community. After a long period of dormancy, the lotuses begin to sprout in October, quickly growing into leaves and buds. By December, the lake is transformed into a breathtaking expanse of vibrant red, becoming a favorite destination for locals. The lotus flowers bloom from dawn until noon, with the blooming season lasting until March. The best time to admire the red lotus sea is between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM, when the blossoms are at their most beautiful. However, boats depart daily from Ban Diem Village in Kumphawapi District, Udon Thani Province, to take visitors to view the lotus blooms. While enjoying the red lotus sea, tourists can also shop for the finest local products in Udon Thani. The province is located 564 kilometers northwest of Bangkok and can be reached via Highway 2.
