Taipei is so beautiful after all!

What images come to mind when you think of your hometown? Photographer Chen Borui, who once released the documentary "Taipei," recently selected highlights from the film, edited them into four one-minute short videos themed by the four seasons, and published them online. The response was equally enthusiastic. One netizen commented after watching: So Taipei is that beautiful!

Chen Borui, who specializes in photography, is a native of Taipei. Initially, he spent two years shooting nearly 200 attractions in the Greater Taipei area to identify the unique characteristics of his hometown, producing a documentary about Taipei that is over 40 minutes long. The newly released seasonal shorts were re-edited using his favorite spots.

Among the many locations he shot, Chen Borui was most impressed by Elephant Mountain and Datun Mountain. "Many people don’t know that you can actually see sea of clouds in Taipei!" Chen said. From Datun Mountain, there’s a chance to see the sea of clouds enveloping Taipei, with varying cloud heights. If you’re lucky, you might even see the tip of Taipei 101 piercing through the sea of clouds. Chen revealed that he climbed Datun Mountain at least 40 times to capture the sea of clouds, but only two attempts yielded results he was satisfied with. As for why he insisted on such a challenging endeavor, Chen smiled and said, “I just love taking photos.”

Transforming a 40-plus-minute film into four one-minute shorts took about two months. Chen Borui said that during this period, some netizens commented that after seeing content related to environmental protection, they would become more civic-minded in the future. Others reacted with, “So Taipei is that pretty!” Many positive responses have given him even more motivation.

“The ad that EVA Air once had Takeshi Kaneshiro star in was a successful video!” Chen Borui believes that videos such as those by EVA Air and the Tourism Bureau's 2011 "Time for Taiwan" are successful promotional films for Taiwan’s tourism that left a deep impression on him. Chen, who is studying at the Graduate Institute of Broadcasting and Television at Shih Hsin University, also chose "Textual Analysis of Tourism Promotion Videos" as the topic for his thesis. In the future, he also hopes to visit the picturesque eastern part of Taiwan, as well as the ever-changing central and southern regions, to shoot more high-quality videos.
