The beloved national treasure steam train CK124 “Midsummer Taiwan No. 1,” popular across Taiwan, will set off again in March. This time, the Midsummer Taiwan No. 1 will take railway enthusiasts on a tour of wooden station buildings operated by Taiwan Railways, including those at Zhuifen and Xinpuy—wooden stations where travelers can relive nostalgic railway memories in just one day.

This cruise-style train itinerary launched by Taiwan Railways, titled “CK124 Wooden Station Building Tour – 2nd Anniversary Commemorative Special Train for Midsummer Taiwan No. 1 2014,” consists of two sessions on March 8 and 9. Tickets will go on sale at 9:00 AM on February 21. The single fare is NT$899 per person, covering round-trip tickets between Changhua and Zhunan (coastal line outbound, mountain line return), a commemorative cap, and an identification badge.
The tour includes stops at wooden railway stations such as Zhuifen, Rinan, Xinpuy, Dashan, and Tanwen. Among them, Zhuifen Station features a uniquely structured wooden building. “Zhuifen” means “branch point” in Japanese, and the station earned its name as it lies at the junction of the Taichung Line and the West Coast Line. Xinpuy, unlike other old wooden stations along the coastal line, offers a view of the blue Taiwan Strait right outside the station exit, making it the western trunk line station closest to the sea.
