Most cherry blossoms planted in Taiwan are red or pink, but Taiwan’s unique white-flowered Wushe plum stands out from the rest. It is sparsely distributed across the island’s mid-altitude mountainous areas and was first discovered in Wushe, hence its name. Blooming annually from February to March, its white petals are edged with a ring of yellowish-green. When the entire tree is in bloom, it appears heavy-laden, adorned with fine white crystals. When the wind blows, a "snowfall" of petals covers the ground—an absolutely breathtaking sight.
Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area has the highest number of cultivated Wushe plum trees in Taiwan. The fresh and elegant white blossoms, set against the backdrop of a blue sky, verdant mountain ranges, and grassy fields, offer a distinct contrast to the vibrant red blooms found in places like Wuling, providing visitors with a unique cherry blossom experience.
Additionally, the Forestry Bureau is hosting the “Trail e-go” event. From now until April 30, the public can scan a QR code along designated trails to redeem a souvenir at the visitor center, with a daily limit of 20 per day.
