The "Steampunk" trend of the 21st century has caused a sensation in the United States, Europe, and beyond. It is an elevated fusion of the retro style of Britain's Victorian era in the 19th century and the aesthetics of mechanical design, forming a unique art style. Dynamic mechanical devices and mysterious, hazy smoke blend with nostalgic retro tones, exuding a subtly imaginative charm.
Recognizing this new trend, Artcenter Ida has invited steampunk artists and designers from around the world to gather their creations at the Seoul Arts Center in South Korea from now until May 18 for Asia's first and largest "Steampunk Art Exhibition." The exhibition showcases the steampunk style and charm, born from the nostalgic retro and mechanical aesthetics of 19th-century Britain’s Victorian era, and also includes artist/designer talks to give visitors a deeper understanding of "steampunk."

This exhibition features works in seven categories: literature, steampunk paintings, crafts, animation, film, fashion, and installations—totaling about 300 pieces. These allow visitors to learn about the origins and development of steampunk and, through audiovisual presentations, quickly grasp and experience the essence of steampunk. Among them, the shining steampunk Harley-Davidson motorcycle Chimera located in the center of the exhibition hall, alongside the Vespa Motorcycle Springer Sting and various steampunk installations by New York artist Art Donovan, are the most popular works in the exhibition.

Additionally, the Art Shop, which became a hot topic just one week after the exhibition opened, offers many rare steampunk-related books, accessories, and collectibles. Due to high demand and limited stock, the items available at the Art Shop change almost every week. The exhibition guidebook for the steampunk show introduces all the works, artists, and designers in detail, making it a collector’s item for many enthusiasts. There have even been overseas orders from Europe, highlighting its immense popularity.

Globally, exhibitions on the theme of steampunk have only been held once each in Europe and the Americas. This is the first time in Asia and the largest-themed exhibition to date, featuring a substantial collection of works that are well worth seeing. It has attracted attention not only in Korea but also around the world.
