In late spring and early summer, the warm breeze heralds the arrival of firefly season. Every April and May is the best time to view fireflies at Sun Moon Lake. The mountain-surrounded, water-adjacent natural environment is perfect for fireflies to breed and inhabit. Areas within the Sun Moon Lake region such as Puli Taomi Community, Yuchi Lotus Pond Forest, TouShe Area, and Xinyi Township Tan Nan Village all offer sightings of fireflies. Hotels in the Sun Moon Lake area also launch special accommodation deals in conjunction with the viewing season and provide a “Firefly Light Map” on the event’s official website, allowing netizens to easily access the most popular firefly-watching spots in Sun Moon Lake.
