Since the Yushan Flower Festival kicked off on March 10, nearly 200,000 visitors have flocked to the Alishan National Scenic Area over the past two weeks to admire the cherry blossoms. With last week’s warming temperatures, the iconic “King Cherry Blossom” of Alishan reached full bloom. A gentle breeze blew through, creating a stunning “cherry blossom snow” effect that left visitors in awe. The blooming Yoshino cherries near the police station, Zhushan Station, and the Alishan Hotel also attracted crowds of admirers. Visitors are curious about how long the Somei Yoshino blossoms will last—typically around 7 to 10 days, depending on the weather, though wind and rain can shorten their lifespan.

Additionally, the Alishan National Scenic Area features a variety of cherry blossom species. After the Somei Yoshino stole the show, the star-shaped Ōshima cherry marked the end of the single-petal blossoms. By late March, double-petal varieties such as weeping cherry, Takasago cherry, Benzaiten cherry, Kanzan cherry, Benihigan, Kirin cherry, Goshiki cherry, Ichihigan cherry, Tulip cherry, and Wanlixiang take center stage. Cherry blossom enthusiasts should seize the spring season to visit the Alishan National Scenic Area and admire these diverse colors and shapes.

Families visiting to enjoy the flowers can take advantage of the limited-time Children’s Day promotion from April 4–6, during which children under 12 enter for free. The Chiayi Forest District Office has also launched the innovative “Alishan Cherry Blossom Adventure – Mobile Guide APP” for the first time this year. Currently available for both iOS and Android, users can download the app by searching “Alishan Cherry Blossom Adventure” on the App Store or Google Play. The app helps visitors identify cherry blossom species within the park, stay updated on popular flower-viewing routes, the latest events, and blossom conditions. It also provides useful information such as temperature, sunrise times, and forest railway schedules to help plan your trip.
