The lushan flower, known as the “April Snow,” is currently in full bloom around the Baishihu Suspension Bridge and Tongxin Pond areas in Taipei’s Neihu District. The dense clusters of lushan blossoms have blanketed the treetops. The Taipei City Government’s Department of Urban Development advises that those wishing to enjoy the floral display should hurry and plan a visit this weekend.

Lushan is a native plant species. Its long, slender petals resemble the tassels on traditional garments worn by ancient ladies, hence the name. When spring arrives, it enters its blooming season, with countless small white flowers covering the entire tree, creating a breathtaking spectacle akin to piles of glistening snow — thus earning it the nickname “April Snow.”
Huang Liyuan, head of the Department of Urban Development, noted that Baishihu has been a key focus area for agricultural environment improvement projects in recent years. During the planning and design phase, to highlight the meaning behind the name “Baishihu” (White Stone Lake), the team selected plants with a “white” color scheme as the design theme. Starting every March, the lushan trees planted along the pathways are the first to burst into full white blooms. When the petals fall, they carpet the ground like snow. Later, firecracker lilies and Formosan lilies also begin to blossom in succession. This period can therefore be called Baishihu’s “snow season.”
Chen Jianfan, a section chief at the Department of Urban Development, said that since its inauguration in 2010 (the 99th year of the Republic of China), the Baishihu Suspension Bridge has fully connected the surrounding environment, linking nearby attractions such as Tongxin Pond, Guizhupi, Husband and Wife Trees, and Wish Pathway. This has greatly enhanced the overall tourism and leisure quality of the area. Transportation options have also been comprehensively planned — whether by private car, MRT, or bus, Baishihu is a highly accessible and convenient leisure destination.

Additionally, aside from the blooming lushan flowers, the elegant and charming light purple-and-white flowers of the chinaberry tree have also begun to appear on the branches, complementing the pure white lushan blossoms. Visitors to the area can take the time to admire and compare these two flowers, experiencing the distinct charm each one offers.
Those driving to Baishihu can take the Chenggong Road Interchange, turn left toward Donghu along Jinlong Road, then proceed via Bishan Road to follow the signs to Bishanyan (parking area), after which they can explore on foot via the Baishihu Suspension Bridge. For those taking public transport, get off at Bihu Elementary School Station (near Taipei City Hall Department Store) and take bus route 小2 or 小2 (short-distance) to arrive. It is recommended that the public use public transportation when possible.
