After enduring the cold of winter, the flowers in Yangmingshan in April, nurtured by recent spring rains and sunshine, are bursting into life. Clivias and amaryllises, with their naturally trumpet-shaped blossoms, are heralding the arrival of spring.

The Clivia, belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family and genus Clivia, features sword-shaped leaves that curve outward. Its dark green foliage exudes vitality, while the vibrant orange-red flowers blooming atop the leaves create a stunning contrast, living up to its name — the “noble gentleman among flowers.”

The amaryllis, with its solitary flower stem standing proud above the leaves, earns its name — literally “standing tall flower.” It is also commonly known as the “trumpet flower” due to its flared bloom shape. Its flower language symbolizes loquaciousness. With diverse shapes and colors, including double-petal varieties, it is especially beloved by the public.

The Flower Trial Center, managed by the Taipei City Public Works Department and located in Yangmingshan, is currently in full bloom. Fragrant native azaleas such as Rhododendron oldhamii, Michelia figo, and Brunfelsia calycina, along with spring flowers like red-flowered crane’s head orchids and irises, attract numerous butterflies. Families are welcome to visit. As there is no parking available nearby, visitors can take bus routes 260, 303, Red 5, or Royal Bus’ Jinshan Line, and get off at the Shanzihou Police Precinct stop. It’s about a 3-minute walk to the Flower Trial Center, which is located right next to a gas station.
