On May 21, EVA Air simultaneously introduced two brand-new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. From cabin seats and in-flight entertainment systems to onboard service items, all will undergo significant upgrades. EVA Air also specially held the “Amazingly Great – New Boeing 777-300ER Aircraft Launch Event,” using scenario-based presentations to lead attendees through the differences between old and new flight experiences alongside characters in the show, while also unveiling various upgraded features in advance. Guests were invited to look forward to the new “flight mode” brought by the new aircraft.

The new aircraft are equipped with the latest generation Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system and GCS (Global Communication Suite) global communication service system, making EVA Air the world’s first airline fully certified by Boeing to integrate GCS and eX3 into the 777-300ER model. The new aircraft offer SMS mobile roaming services, allowing passengers to conveniently send and receive text messages using their own phones “with the same device and number.” The aircraft are also equipped with SKY Wi-Fi functionality, available when the flight altitude exceeds 20,000 feet. Passengers can send and receive emails, use instant messaging apps on their phones, and even fulfill their dream of an aerial “check-in.” SKY Wi-Fi is charged based on usage time, with options for 1 hour at USD 11.95 (tax included) or 24 hours at USD 21.95 (tax included), allowing passengers to choose according to their needs.

The SMS mobile roaming service allows passengers to easily send and receive text messages using their own phones “with the same device and number.” All charging methods are the same as those for aviation roaming text messages, billed by the original mobile carrier (such as Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone, Taiwan Mobile, etc.) on the phone bill, enabling passengers to stay connected with ground communications without delay while in the air.

Along with the new eX3 in-flight entertainment system – Star Gallery, all cabins are equipped with high-resolution, large-screen displays, offering passengers a high-definition, high-quality audiovisual entertainment experience on the plane. The operation interface is also leading nationally, modeled after iPad usage by replacing traditional tapping with swiping. Passengers can directly control the screen by swiping and touching, whether selecting movie segments or playing in-flight games, delivering a smooth and fast experience similar to using a tablet, even eliminating difficulties in rewinding or fast-forwarding videos.

Along with the new aircraft, EVA Air will also upgrade various in-flight service items for the Boeing 777-300ER. Royal Laurel Class will provide new noise-canceling headphones with better sound quality and advanced active noise-canceling features, and will begin offering the well-known bottled water brand FIJI Water from the Fiji Islands, as well as a pajama service, allowing passengers to enjoy a home-like level of comfort on board. The popular Rimowa overnight bag will also be updated with two new colors: “CRYSTAL GREEN” (pearlescent green) and its classic color “PROSECCO” (light gold). Passengers traveling on outbound and return flights will receive two different colored overnight bags, catering to those who enjoy collecting them.

These two new aircraft are scheduled to operate the BR32 Taipei–New York route every Sunday and Monday starting June 3, and the BR12 Taipei–Los Angeles route every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. With the new aircraft in service, EVA Air will also increase frequencies on Taipei–North America routes starting June 2: Vancouver route increases from 3 to 4 weekly flights, Toronto route from 3 to 4, New York route from 5 to 7, and Los Angeles route from 17 to 20. After the third new aircraft returns to Taiwan in June, the second phase of frequency increases for San Francisco and Los Angeles will be implemented, bringing the total Taipei–North America routes to 55 weekly flights.
