Among them, the wedding photos taken at Perth’s Wave Rock are stunning, prompting many to ask where it is. Xu Ruoxuan said this massive wave symbolizes the powerful force of their love. Towering in the desert of central Western Australia, Wave Rock is part of the northern section—and the most peculiar section—of Hyden Rock. Standing 15 meters high and stretching about 110 meters long, its undulating shape resembles a colossal rolling wave, making for a truly spectacular sight. Although it takes nearly five hours to drive there from Perth, many people still make the trip each year just to witness the grandeur of Wave Rock.

Wave Rock is composed of granite and formed around 2.7 billion years ago. Through the forces of nature, its surface has been carved into concave shapes. Over time, rainwater erosion gradually shaped it into its current wavy form, while dramatic daily temperature fluctuations also played a major role. The entire erosion process is extremely slow, but the result is nothing short of spectacular—a testament to the undeniable power of nature. The lines on the surface of Wave Rock were formed when rainwater containing carbon and hydrogen washed away surface chemicals, triggering chemical reactions that created black, gray, ochre-red, brown, and earthy-yellow stripes. These varying shades make the rock appear more vivid, resembling a surging ocean wave. For a long time, this magnificent sight remained hidden in the central desert of Western Australia until 1963, when photographer Jay Hodges’ photo of Wave Rock won an award in an international photography competition in New York. It later became the cover of National Geographic Magazine, instantly gaining fame and making Wave Rock a sought-after spot for photographers. The secret to capturing the rock’s colorful stripes? Shoot in the afternoon, when the colors are at their most vibrant.

In addition to Wave Rock, the wedding photo scenes also include Swan Lake, with blue skies and white clouds providing a vast and magnificent backdrop. The golden wheat fields along the roadside offer endless roads and straw landscapes, with a 360-degree panoramic horizon that showcases a sense of grandeur and wild beauty rarely seen in wedding photos. Graffiti at weekend markets can also be spontaneously used as fantastic backdrops, resulting in playful and sweet wedding portraits. In recent years, the trend of taking overseas wedding photos and going on honeymoons has been growing. Consider referencing popular international travel destinations and itineraries to create unforgettable memories for your own wedding photos and honeymoon.
