Mauritius is a small island formed from volcanic lava, so its terrain is varied and the soil is unique, creating many beautiful natural wonders. On a small hill in the southwest of the island, there lies a vast expanse of wavy, multicolored earth (Chamarel Coloured Earth).

The seven-colored soil was originally discovered by a French sugarcane farmer. At the time, the surrounding area was covered with endless sugarcane fields, yet this particular piece of land remained barren. After geological experts conducted research and analysis, this stunning multicolored earth was revealed to the world. The reason the soil displays such a spectrum of colors is due to ancient volcanic lava mixed with sand, forming soil rich in minerals such as iron, sulfur, and quartz... These minerals oxidize and change color, while the wavy patterns are the result of erosion. When sunlight hits the undulating hill from various angles, the soil reflects vividly contrasting and extraordinary hues.
