The Mid-Autumn holiday is just around the corner, and the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau will take advantage of the unique terrain of the "Tianliao Moon World," with its dramatic mudstone formations, and combine it with lighting and projection mapping to unveil a never-before-seen new look for the Moon World at night.

From September 6 to October 5, the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau will host a series of "Magical Moon World" themed activities along the lakeside trail of the Moon World Geo Park, all centered around the theme of fantasy.The most special highlight will be the introduction of Taiwan’s first mobile projection mapping system, which uses unique image splicing and cross-projection technology to present special effects animations as themed projections in the "3D Projection Mapping Show," delivering a magical visual impact where light and shadow blend seamlessly.

In addition, the nighttime Moon World will feature various scenic light projections, complemented by reflections on Yuchi Lake, showcasing the surrounding cliffs and lakeside scenery in ever-changing fantastical forms. The Tourism Bureau will also arrange shuttle buses from the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Qiaotou Railway Station, one of which will be specially designed as the "Pili Colorful Shuttle Bus," providing more convenient transportation for Pili fans and visitors. Kaohsiung’s Moon World is located between Chongde and Guting in Tianliao District. Known for its barren beauty, it resembles the moon’s surface, earning its fame as a desolate and otherworldly desert-like landscape. The geological formation here is scientifically referred to as a "badland" terrain, shaped over years by the erosive forces of rainwater and river water cutting through soft, bluish-gray, slightly saline mudstone. This has resulted in a rugged and bleak landscape. The fine-grained, loosely cemented mudstone has low permeability, making it extremely slippery when wet. Rain causes it to flow downhill easily, making plant growth nearly impossible. As a result, the area is mostly barren, with exposed mudstone, dense ridges, and ravines—distinctive features of mudstone badland landscapes.
