With the fragrance of osmanthus in the air and the Mid-Autumn Festival bringing families together, the autumn atmosphere has deepened after the holiday. On the 5th, just before the Mid-Autumn break, the Beitou Meiyuan (Banmei Court) under the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism hosted the “Autumn at Banmei Court” event, encouraging the public to visit New Beitou during the Mid-Autumn holiday, head to Meiyuan, and create their own personalized postcard of the court. These can be sent as greetings to loved ones far away or kept as personal souvenirs. The public is warmly welcome to join.

Located in New Beitou, Beitou Meiyuan is Taiwan’s first memorial venue dedicated to Yu Youren, revered as the “Sage of Cursive Script”. Built in the late 1930s, it served as Yu Youren’s summer villa. The structure features a unique design that retains the style of traditional Japanese wooden architecture. The courtyard wall is built in the form of a battlement, while the backyard is shaded by lush green trees, offering a tranquil and elegant setting overlooking the Beitou Creek with its gently flowing water. The entrance pillars are inscribed with the Chinese characters “Mei Ting” (Banmei Court), personally handwritten by Yu Youren.

The venue also houses a visitor center that provides tourism consultation services for Beitou, making it a wonderful starting point for travelers in the area. This “Autumn at Banmei Court” event specially invited accomplished fine-brush painting artist Li Liangcun to create artwork, which was made into postcards featuring a base sketch of the Meiyuan building. It also offered four types of stamps depicting the bamboo forest, plum tree, stone lantern, and Yu Youren’s signature at Meiyuan, allowing visitors to stamp and create their own compositions on the postcards. Additionally, five collectible stamps featuring scenic elements of Meiyuan were available for those who enjoy collecting memorabilia. This allows visitors not only to experience the cultural richness and historical ambiance of Meiyuan, and enjoy the calligraphic charm of Yu Youren blending past and present, but also to take home a free, self-designed postcard as an everlasting memory of a relaxing and delightful journey.
