A globally renowned American authoritative travel magazine recently released the results of its 2014 readers' poll for the best islands. The competing islands spanned the globe, and the top spot was claimed by the Philippines’ Palawan, beating out 29 other islands from around the world.

More than 76,600 readers participated in this poll, with many citing the underground river natural wonder within Palawan as the main reason for its win. The underground river in Palawan stretches five kilometers, making it the longest in Asia and the second longest in the world. Visitors can take tourist boats along the waterways to explore deep into the limestone interior and admire scenery such as stalagmites and stalactites.
