Houtong Cat Village Gets a Makeover: The Cat Information Station Debuts with Highlights!

Houtong, a mountain town once named one of the world’s six best cat-watching spots by CNN, is not only one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist destinations, but its cat bridge is also the first pedestrian overpass in Taiwan designed for both humans and cats to share. Moreover, the beautification project of the railway overpass at this station was once honored with the 13th Public Construction Golden Quality Award. To allow more visitors to experience the charm of Houtong and promote proper animal protection education concepts, New Taipei City Government spent nearly four months renovating and transformed an old TRA dormitory into a Cat Information Station. The aim is for visitors to Houtong Cat Village to not only have things to see and do, but also to gain correct animal protection knowledge.

The Cat Information Station serves as a platform for cats to rest, drink water, and promote proper animal protection concepts.
To educate the many visitors to Houtong about proper cat feeding and conservation concepts, and to revitalize underused spaces,the old TRA dormitory in Cat Village has been specially renovated and turned into a Cat Information Station.Volunteers from the Animal Protection Office will be stationed here to provide related animal protection and education information.

Colorful murals, piano stairs, and Q-style cat family figurines
To encourage visitors to explore Cat Village more deeply and beautify the overall environment, illustrators were specially invited to design colorful cat murals and piano stairs, transforming what were once damaged and unremarkable walls and steps into large-scale cat-themed installations that are incredibly eye-catching. Speaking of the new highlights in Cat Village, don’t miss the cat family figurines also designed by illustrator Cat Little P — namely the five hugely popular characters: Big White, Little Flower, Duoduo, Little Tiger Girl, and Big Treasure. They are located in various spots around Cat Village, and visitors can go on a deep exploration of the village by finding them.
