Stafford Weiss (played by John Cusack) is a best-selling author of self-help books and a sought-after psychotherapist for celebrities. Behind the seemingly glamorous Hollywood celebrity family lies a family that has completely fallen apart. Benjie, their son, is a moderately famous child star in Hollywood who developed a drug addiction at a young age and has just come out of rehab. Mrs. Weiss is obsessed with reviving Benjie’s acting career. Meanwhile, their estranged daughter Agatha (played by Mia Wasikowska), who has just been discharged from a psychiatric hospital, secretly returns to California and tries every means to apply for a job as an assistant to faded actress Havana Segrand (played by Julianne Moore). With her return, the darkness hidden in the Weiss family’s past is relentlessly exposed. The glamorous masks of the stars are peeled away layer by layer, and everyone gradually descends into madness. All of this is witnessed by a part-time luxury car driver (played by Robert Pattinson), who is another aspiring but struggling small-time actor in Hollywood…
