【Visit Accommodation】Sweden’s Winter-Only Icehotel Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary with Ice Fantasies by 42 Artists

If you have the chance to visit Sweden in winter, you absolutely can’t miss the annual Icehotel in Lapland. Since 1990, the Icehotel has been built from scratch every year, using frozen water taken from the nearby Torne River. It usually opens around December and stays open until spring arrives in March. When the weather warms up, the ice melts and the hotel disappears again. For over two decades, it has become a renowned icy spectacle, attracting more than 50,000 visitors each year for stays or tours.

This year marks the Icehotel’s 25th anniversary. Over the past few weeks, 42 artists from around the world have gathered to create the hotel and art exhibitions of the year using unimaginable craftsmanship, all in celebration of the milestone. As a result, this winter, the Icehotel will feature not only 16 ice suites but also two additional luxury suites with bathrooms and saunas. In a world where all furniture is made of ice, guests are promised a truly unique experience. To commemorate the anniversary, a 1,800-square-foot circular theater called Aurora Hall has been specially created this year, accommodating about 150 people for private events or live performances. It features a transparent ceiling made of solid ice and a uniquely designed performance venue.
