Travel often leads to poor sleep or even insomnia due to unfamiliar environments, jet lag, excitement, and more. Here are seven simple tips to help travelers sleep better on the road.

1.Reduce noise
After checking in, take a moment to listen to sounds from outside the window, next door, or the hallway. If soundproofing is poor, ask the accommodation provider if you can switch to a quieter room.
2.Adjust the air conditioning
Right after checking in, your body temperature may be higher due to travel fatigue and moving luggage, making you feel hot. But once asleep, your body cools down. To avoid waking up cold in the night, set the AC a bit warmer before bed.

3.Block out light
Light signals your brain and can prevent you from falling asleep. In unfamiliar settings, some people prefer to sleep with the lights on, but it's best to dim the lights before bed. You could also leave only the bathroom light on with the door slightly open. Those who dread being woken by sunlight should make sure to close the curtains or wear an eye mask.
4.Adjust your bedding
Hotels usually provide two or even three pillows per guest. Adjusting pillow height or position can reduce the risk of muscle soreness or stiff necks. Some hotels even offer different mattress materials and firmness levels for guests to try.

5.Soothe your emotions
Before bed, drink warm milk or chocolate, and avoid stimulating drinks like caffeine. A hot bath, essential oils, incense, or relaxing background music can all help you sleep better.
6.Sleep aids
Many people have favorite sleep companions like towels, stuffed animals, or small blankets. Bringing items that help you feel secure in unfamiliar places can make a big difference—don’t forget to pack them.

7.Keep your phone away
The main goal of travel is to break free from your routine and truly relax. Before bed, place your phone and laptop out of reach, turn off notifications, or switch to airplane mode to avoid disturbances and fully enjoy your trip.
