Spring marks the beginning of the floral season. Thanks to the warm winter, the kapok flowers at Bahe Linchupi in Tainan have gradually turned fiery red. With the arrival of the 228 Holiday, the 2019 Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition and the 2019 Nianlian Xuejia Hollyhock Flower Culture Festival will both bloom in all their glory. 1.2019Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition
Taiwan’s only international orchid exhibition themed entirely around “orchids,” and one of the world’s top three such exhibitions, will be held at the Taiwan Orchid Plant Biotech Park in Houpi, Tainan. This year’s exhibition is themed “Orchid Realm,” expressing Tainan’s historical journey alongside the strength of its current orchid industry. By integrating local culture, art, celebrations, and industries, the elegance of orchids is blended with the ambiance of Tainan across different eras, showcasing the city’s charm.

2.2019Bahe Kapok Flower Season
The Bahe Linchupi Kapok Avenue, listed by foreign media as one of the world’s 15 most beautiful — and the only one in Asia — flower sea streets, is now in full bloom. The stretch of blooming kapok trees offers a spectacular sight, while the surrounding rural scenery brings a sense of relaxation. To complement the flower season, the Bahe District Office has launched a series of “Bahe Kapok Flower Season” events, including photography contests, guided tours, flower-themed coloring activities, and flower season concerts. During the season, the once-simple country roads are adorned festively, and the vibrant red kapok blossoms make for a perfect photo spot.

3.2019Nianlian Xuejia Hollyhock Flower Culture Festival
The hollyhock flowers in Tainan’s Xuejia District are among the must-see floral sights when visiting the area. With a riot of colors — red, purple, white, and yellow — visitors wandering through the fields feel as if they’re in a vibrant maze. The surroundings are complemented by golden rapeseed fields, swaying wheat waves, and eye-catching crimson amaranth flower seas, creating an incredibly beautiful scene. The local Xuejia area is hosting the “Nianlian Xuejia Hollyhock Flower Culture Festival,” which besides the romantic flower sea, also features sketching competitions, concerts, handmade soap DIY experiences, markets, and a Taiwanese tilapia gourmet feast.

4.2019Yuze Harbor Lantern Festival
The Yuze Harbor Lantern Festival, themed “Breathe with the Light,” has invited 20 contemporary art groups from France, Japan, Brazil, and other countries to participate. The installations are arranged along a looping route within the winding waterways, blending the local culture and natural environment of YanShui. The beautiful waterside lantern displays will close after the 228 Holiday — visitors looking to admire this stunning festival should seize the opportunity.
