Want to see fireflies in Taipei? Better hurry—Bamboo Lake in Yangmingshan is in the peak of its calla lily season until the end of May, with gorgeous blooms now on full display. As night falls, the area transforms into a sparkling wonderland. On May 9, the Taipei City Department of Civil Affairs launched the "Bamboo Lake Free Firefly-Guided Tour" to give more visitors a chance to explore the unique ecological environment of the stream.

You don’t have to travel far—beautiful fireflies can be spotted right in Taipei’s mountains and forests, with numbers that rival those in central and southern Taiwan. On the evening of May 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Department of Civil Affairs will lead a free guided firefly tour. Stroll through the calla lily fields at night, and when you see the fireflies dancing above the fields, it feels like little sprites waltzing over snow—a dreamy scene paired with a starry sky that feels like stepping into the magical world of Alice in Wonderland.
