As the year draws to a close and a new one approaches, it also means that Taiwan’s longest holiday of the year—the Lunar New Year vacation—is just around the corner. Have you planned your itinerary for the 2018 Spring Festival yet? During the chilly holiday season, why not soak in Japan’s misty hot springs to warm up? lN Jia Travel Agency has launched this winter the “Five Prefectures of West Seto, Kyushu & Shikoku 5-Day Tour,” which won the “Discover Heart of Japan Grand Prize Itinerary.” In addition to staying three nights at hot spring hotels, this tour takes you through the enchanting Seto Inland Sea, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

▲ The Great Torii Gate of Itsukushima Shrine usually stands in the sea, and during low tide, visitors can walk right up to it.

In the Seto Inland Sea, there is a striking vermilion torii gate standing on the coastal tidal flat—it’s the Itsukushima Shrine, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Visitors can take a ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima to get a closer look at the shrine’s beauty. It’s said that the entire shrine complex was designed to resemble the bedroom of nobility at the time, giving the shrine an elegant appearance, almost like a sea palace.

▲ The elevated bridges of the Shimanami Kaido connect the islands along the route, creating a stunning seascape.

The Shimanami Kaido spans from Shikoku to the main island, linking Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture via highway. It consists of nine major bridges connecting the various islands of the Seto Inland Sea, stretching approximately 59.4 kilometers in total and featuring various types such as suspension bridges, arch bridges, and cable-stayed bridges. Among them, the Tatara Bridge, with a total length of 1,480 meters, is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world.

▲ Matsuyama Castle is one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles.

There are only twelve remaining “tenshu” (main keep) structures in Japan that symbolize ruling power, and one of them is Matsuyama Castle in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It also boasts the highest main keep among them, so visitors who make it to the top floor of the tenshu can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views. Travelers here can choose to hike up or take the ropeway, and lN Jia Travel Agency has specially arranged for guests to ride the ropeway to admire the moving scenery of the Iyo Plain, Mount Ishizuchi, and the Seto Inland Sea.

▲ Scholar Mori Kūsō visited Kinrin Lake and noted how, under the setting sun, the lake surface shimmered golden like fish scales, hence the name “Kinrin Lake” (Golden Scale Lake).

Kyushu’s Yufuin in Oita Prefecture is famous for its hot springs and known as the “Land of Morning Mist and Healing Springs.” Its Kinrin Lake is formed by thermal spring water, and even in the depths of winter, steam can be seen rising from the lake, which also contributes to the morning mist over the Yufuin Basin.

To ensure travelers have an unforgettable New Year holiday, lN Jia Travel Agency has specially arranged tour departures during the Spring Festival, with trips scheduled for February 14 and February 18. Start planning your Japanese adventure for the Lunar New Year now.
