The boundless creativity of the Japanese never ceases to amaze. Recently, a lab-themed bar called INCUBATOR (インキュベーター) opened in Japan, and its design is truly that of an authentic laboratory. With high ceilings and dim lighting, the space resembles a real research lab in Japan. Upon entering, guests must put on white lab coats, instantly evoking the feeling of about to conduct an experiment. Everywhere you look, there are scientific tools—right from the start, litmus paper is freely available on the table, alcoholic drinks are served in test tubes, and snacks are placed in lab dishes, creating an oddly fascinating and surreal atmosphere.

INCUBATOR is thoroughly lab-themed, stemming from the fact that its owner is originally a former biology researcher. Initially, the idea was simply to create a space where researchers could interact with one another, which is how the bar came to be. Upon entering INCUBATOR, guests are required to don lab coats, giving them the immediate sense of preparing to carry out experiments. Scientific equipment is found everywhere—for example, litmus paper is readily available on the table as soon as you sit down, alcoholic beverages are served in test tubes, and snacks are placed in laboratory containers, resulting in a delightfully incongruous and entertaining scene.
