Mount Niesen, towering at 2,362 meters, is a mountain situated in the Swiss Alps, north of Lake Thun. Its charm lies in its unique scenic landscape, the fresh mountain air, and the serene atmosphere. In addition, it is renowned for its perfect triangular shape and for having the world’s longest staircase, which connects the mountain’s base to its summit. Due to its distinctive shape, when the sun shines from the south, the mountain casts a captivating triangular shadow on the ground.

Additionally, a cable car facility built in 1910 allows travelers to reach the summit. Moreover, the staircase that runs alongside the cable car railway is the longest in the world. Originally constructed for railway maintenance, it consists of 11,674 steps, spans a significant height, and features a maximum incline of 66 degrees. An annual stair-climbing race is organized, during which participants can experience walking up the “world’s longest staircase” up close.

Mount Niesen is a tourist destination with over a hundred years of history and is a beloved spot among hikers. The first hotel on the mountain to accommodate visitors was established in 1856. Hikers could stay here briefly to recharge before enjoying the incredible serenity of the summit, as well as the vast panoramic views of mountains, lakes, and valleys.
