Summer has arrived, and if you’re in the mood for a short island escape but don’t have much time, the picturesque Little Liuqiu is an excellent option. The Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau has partnered with Pingtung County Government, passenger ferry companies, and travel agencies to launch a new Blue Highway route from Fengbitou Fishing Port to Little Liuqiu’s Dafu Fishing Port, along with three package tour options—making it easy for everyone to enjoy an island adventure during the summer break.

In the past, traveling to Little Liuqiu in Pingtung required taking a boat from Donggang. With the new Blue Highway route between Fengbitou Fishing Port and Little Liuqiu’s Dafu Fishing Port, visitors can combine high-speed rail, MRT, and taxis, significantly reducing travel time and waiting in line for ferries. Paired with various tour packages offered by travel agencies, this creates a convenient one-day island-hopping experience from northern to southern Taiwan.

Known as the “Marine Park,” Little Liuqiu is Taiwan’s only coral island. Visitors can hop on a sightseeing bus or rent a scooter to explore the island’s attractions. The northern loop features Flower Vase Rock, Lingshan Temple, rich coral reef formations, and dramatic cliffs. The southern loop includes Little Liuqiu’s Underwater Zoo, Fairy Maiden Platform, and Lobster Cave, showcasing gravel beaches, sandy shores, and sisal plants. Nature’s artistry has crafted the island’s unique rock formations, turning a full circuit into a feast of natural beauty. The island’s “Liuqiu Morning Glow” is also recognized as one of Southern Taiwan’s Eight Great Scenic Spots. With sunset views, starry nights, waves to play in, seashells to collect, and the endless blue, Little Liuqiu remains a top summer destination.
