Summer is the perfect season for joyful outings. In Yanping Riverside Park, the Taipei City Government has not only widened the bike paths but also added riverside walking trails. Especially eye-catching are the two shiny “landscape kinetic walls” next to the Dunhuang Wharf sluice, which are real attention-grabbers. If you don’t want to stay cooped up in an air-conditioned room all the time, why not take a relaxing bike ride along Yanping Riverside Park, enjoy the breeze, and soak in the easygoing vibe?

Starting from Dadaocheng Wharf, it only takes about 20 minutes to reach Dunhuang Wharf. Along the way, you’ll pass the Yanping Riverside Park bike path, which is much more pleasant to ride on after being widened. The area is popular on weekends, with many people coming here to stroll, jog, or walk their dogs. The plaza features three rest areas designed to resemble paper airplanes, where both kids and adults can take a break, recharge, and enjoy the stunning sunset over the Tamsui River—truly a refreshing experience.

When you’re here, don’t just zip past on your bike—take some time to stop and look around. Right across from the rest areas is Dunhuang Wharf, where the “wind-driven landscape walls” on both sides of the sluice are made of numerous metal panels that rotate slightly in the breeze. During the day, the word “TAIPEI” shines brightly, offering a striking visual display. By evening, the walls reflect the glow of the setting sun, creating a magnificent golden radiance. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful highlights along Taipei’s riverbanks.

Riding north from the paper airplane-shaped rest area for about 30 minutes will take you to Shizitou Park on Shijhou Island. There, you can enjoy the expansive view where two rivers meet and snap photos with the internet-famous “3D land art.” When you return to Dadaocheng Wharf, on weekend evenings after 6 PM, you can catch street performers singing or playing the saxophone. On summer nights, with the gentle riverside breeze and romantic melodies in the air, the heat becomes a distant memory. To end your summer bike mini-trip on a delicious note, head to the nearby Yongle Market or Ningxia Night Market for some tasty treats.
