No need to journey to Hokkaido for a sea of flowers — you can experience it in Tokyo. The annual Sunflower Festival in Kiyose City, Tokyo, takes place from August 18th to 31st. Since 2008, Kiyose City in Tokyo’s Tama area has hosted an annual Sunflower Festival. Across the two-hectare site, up to 100,000 sunflowers are planted, creating a dazzling golden sea. This vast field is usually used by local farmers to grow wheat, but it is specially planted with sunflowers for the festival period and opened to visitors. Every year, large crowds come to admire this golden expanse made up of tens of thousands of sunflowers. In addition, the surrounding area also sells fresh, locally grown vegetables unique to Kiyose City. For those who love sunflowers, cut flowers are also available, allowing visitors to take a piece of summer’s vitality home with them.
