Like a Disney version in Taiwan！The Taiwan Lantern Festival amazes international media

Taiwan’s lantern festival, with a 30-year history, has been praised by international media as “a Disneyland without roller coasters.” This year, it was held in Pingtung at the southernmost point of the country for the first time. On the 19th, it officially opened and drew over 500,000 visitors, including 132 journalists from nearly 20 countries such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, India, the United States, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Israel, and Russia, all gathered to witness the pride and emotion that belong to Pingtung.

This year, the Pingtung County Government team created a themed lantern festival park in the Dapeng Bay main lantern area, combining Taiwan’s largest o_ lake, beautiful coastal bay landscapes, with modern technology, lighting, and music, making it the most beautiful and distinctive Taiwan Lantern Festival to date.

Pingtung’s rich ethnic culture, agricultural and fishery specialties, and tourism industry were also showcased at the lantern festival. The main lantern “The Giant Tuna Brings Prosperity” depicts a blackfin tuna riding the waves, dominating the sea, echoing the local fishing culture of Donggang. Dapeng Bay was once covered with oyster racks, and a new immigrant art lantern, 15 meters high, was created using 300,000 oyster shells, symbolizing the resilience of new immigrants and representing respect for Taiwan’s multiculturalism. As a major agricultural county, Pingtung also built a 12-meter-tall lantern featuring a rice planter bending over, showcasing rural revitalization and the Satoyama spirit.

Great care was also taken in arranging the performance programs, featuring the French aquatic utopia theater troupe performing “Ocean Opera,” as well as the “Intel Drone Light Show,” the first of its kind in Taiwan, where sparkling lights create the most magical visual experience.

He also specifically introduced the local “Art Lantern Area” to many international media present, expressing gratitude to foreign artists who traveled from the far north of the Earth to southernmost Pingtung, collaborating with local artists. Their works have been invited to be exhibited at the Copenhagen Light Festival in Denmark this August. He looks forward to connecting with the world through art and successfully building the Pingtung brand.
