Renowned for her fantastical works, Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa has collaborated with the Sumida Aquarium at Tokyo Skytree since September 9 to launch the “Mika Ninagawa × Sumida Aquarium Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel.” Using thousands of mirrored panels to project her artwork alongside jellyfish imagery, the installation creates a dazzling kaleidoscopic world, aiming to immerse visitors in Ninagawa’s imaginative universe.

The Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel installation utilizes up to 5,000 square and triangular mirrors covering the walls and ceiling, along with eight jellyfish tanks that display images of flowers and crowds captured by Ninagawa in the past. The work is divided into two versions—“Day” and “Night.” The daytime version features elements such as flowers, oceans, and the sky, while the nighttime version includes videos and photos of Tokyo’s night scenery, highways, and the Shibuya scramble crossing. The interplay of real and virtual light projections constructs a fantastical and artistic space, drawing people once again into the magic of Ninagawa’s artistry. The event will run until December 27.
