The American food website The Daily Meal has announced the 2015 list of the 101 Best Restaurants in Asia. This year, Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan claimed the championship, with Taiwan’s Din Tai Fung achieving an impressive second-place ranking. In addition to Din Tai Fung, three other Taiwanese restaurants made the list: Le Mout in Taichung ranked 38th, Taipei’s MUME came in at 59th, and RAW, opened by André Chiang in Beitou, secured the 62nd position.

Din Tai Fung previously ranked first among Asia’s 101 Best Restaurants in 2013, dropped to sixth in 2016, and this year secured second place, just behind Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan. Taichung’s Le Mout improved by five spots from 43rd last year to 38th this year. Meanwhile, RAW and MUME, both opened in late 2014, made the list of Asia’s Best Restaurants within a year of their debut—no small feat.

The list of Asia’s 101 Best Restaurants by The Daily Meal includes restaurants from 43 countries and cities across Asia such as Cambodia, India, China, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. A pool of 520 restaurants was shortlisted, and 50 food experts—including chefs, restaurateurs, and food journalists—voted based on cuisine and restaurant style. The top five restaurants in 2015 were: first place, Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong; second place, Din Tai Fung in Taiwan; third place, Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong (a Michelin three-star restaurant); fourth place, Tokyo’s Takazawa; and fifth place, Whampoa Club at Three on the Bund in Shanghai.
