Kaohsiung MRT celebrated its seventh anniversary on September 23 by launching the Light Dome Show at Formosa Boulevard Station. This transforms the Light Dome from a static artwork into a dynamic art project with light and sound effects, staged at fixed times daily to attract both domestic and international visitors. Inspired by the artistic concept of the glass pyramid at France’s Louvre Museum, Kaohsiung MRT installed golden lighting fixtures at the No. 1 and No. 3 glass curtain wall entrances, creating a warm ambiance that connects seamlessly with the Light Dome to form an integrated art installation. This has made Formosa Boulevard Station a popular new spot for photoshoots and wedding photography.

Cities become beautiful through art, and many around the world are famed for their iconic art landmarks. Beyond being just an MRT station, Formosa Boulevard Station is also a major art landmark in Kaohsiung. The Light Dome inside the station, designed by artist Narcissus Quagliata, depicts the story of love and life. The station’s Exits 1 to 4 were designed by renowned Japanese architect Shin Takamatsu, who crafted four large fiberglass gateways inspired by the image of prayer. Their stylish exteriors embody a deeper message of peace.
