The well-known natural attraction "Parent and Child Tree" in Biei, Hokkaido, had one of its trees collapse in early October due to strong winds, causing the iconic image of a family of trees to disappear — leaving only the two trees that represent the father and mother.

The name "Parent and Child Tree" comes from the three trees standing side by side — two large and one small. The smaller middle tree, called the child tree (子供の树), represents the child, while the two larger trees symbolize the father and mother.
