A new attraction in Pingtung！The "Shan Chuan Liuli Suspension Bridge," connecting Sandimen Township and Majia Township, combines the area's unique liuli (glass art) imagery and light sculpture art. Its beautiful skyward curve is expected to become a new tourism landmark in northern Pingtung. Currently, construction is nearing completion, with plans to open in late December.

The Shan Chuan Liuli Suspension Bridge, 262 meters long and approximately 45 meters above the riverbed on average, is located downstream of the old suspension bridge. It connects Sandi Village in Sandimen Township and Beiyeh Village in Majia Township, linking the Lailei Permanent Residences, the Indigenous Cultural Park, and the Sandimen Art Village.
The Shan Chuan Liuli Suspension Bridge showcases local indigenous culture and history. Its liuli bead-inspired installation design was overseen by local master artist Sakuliu Pavavaljung. After extensively interviewing tribal elders and conducting field research, he reinterpreted the cultural significance of liuli beads in a deeper and more nuanced way. Now, these interpretations are embedded in the bridge’s stunning glass art installations on both sides, which are truly breathtaking. Twenty-four storyboards narrate touching tales from the tribes, and together with the liuli motifs and light sculpture art, they offer visitors a profound cultural journey into the tribal heritage.

Additionally, the two ends of the bridge feature different entrance designs. At the Sandimen end, mosaic artworks created by students from Dimore Elementary School adorn the anchorage wall and retaining wall surfaces. At the Majia end, students from Beiyeh Elementary School contributed patterns for the anchorage wall artwork. Both ends also feature large stone installation art pieces: the Majia end depicts a “sweet potato,” while the Sandimen end shows a “taro,” symbolizing ethnic unity through the meaningful imagery of “taro and sweet potato.”
