After the terrorist attacks in Paris, France on November 13, the Eiffel Tower was shut down indefinitely with its lights turned off. Following the display of blue, white and red lights at landmarks around the world in solidarity with France, the Eiffel Tower lit up again on the evening of November 16, shining in the blue, white and red colors of the French flag. The relighting of the Eiffel Tower was requested by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The tower was illuminated once again in the blue, white and red colors of the French flag to inspire hope. Paris’s symbolic motto “Tossed but not sunk” (Fluctuat nec Mergitur) was also displayed. The lighting lasted for three days until November 18. Currently, France has been marked with a yellow travel alert by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
