*33: A Miracle of Survival* is the film adaptation of this true story. It depicts August 5, 2010, when the century-old San José Mine awaited its usual miners. They said goodbye to their families and entered the mine as always—except that, in the afternoon, the mine suddenly collapsed, trapping 33 miners 700 meters underground. Helplessly waiting for rescue above ground, they also battled their own inner fears. Mine shift foreman Mario (played by Antonio Banderas) decided to step up, leading the other 32 discouraged companions with the remaining biscuits and canned goods, clinging to dwindling hope. They didn’t want to be seen as heroes—they just wanted to make it home safely...

The film is produced by the Oscar-winning producer of *Black Swan*, with the plot curated by the Golden Globe-nominated screenwriter of *The Motorcycle Diaries*. It is one of the final works of the late Oscar-winning composer of *Titanic*, and features visual effects by the team behind *The Amazing Spider-Man* to recreate the shocking collapse of the mine disaster. With an award-winning production team and a stellar cast including Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche, the film premiered in Chile on August 6, not only topping the box office in its first week but also breaking Chile’s opening-day box office record and ranking as the second-highest opening film in Chilean history.
