Every winter, Hokkaido becomes blanketed in pristine white snow, transforming into a magical silver-white world. The originally elegant Otaru Canal takes on an even more dreamy winter ambiance, and the much-loved nighttime illumination event, the Snow Light Path, will hold its 18th edition from February 5 to February 14, 2016, making the nights along the Otaru Canal even more romantic.

The Snow Light Path, held along the Otaru Canal since 1999, was initially initiated by local residents and volunteers who placed dazzling snow lanterns along the snow-covered canal banks. The warm glow illuminated Otaru’s famous sights and streets, creating a beautiful scene that has become one of the most anticipated winter attractions for travelers each year. The upcoming 18th Snow Light Path event will begin lighting up on February 5, 2016, and continue until February 14, 2016. During this period, a series of fun sightseeing activities will also be held locally, inviting everyone to enjoy a romantic winter together.
