Follow Nice Daddy for Fun in Xiluo, Yunlin: Yanping Old Street, Dong Market, Maruzo Soy Sauce Museum, Rueichun Soy Sauce Tourist Factory, Fogmei Divine Story Museum, and Xiluo Pitou Picture Book Park.
When talking about Xiluo, one must mention the Xiluo Bridge. Spanning 1,939 meters, it was originally designed by the Japanese but saw construction delays due to the outbreak of the Pacific War. After the war, with funding and technical assistance from the U.S., it was finally completed in 1953, becoming a vital link between northern and southern Taiwan. It also bears witness to the history of the Republic of China in Taiwan. Though the "Xizhou Bridge" was built in 1992, what remains today is not just the grand architecture itself but also irreplaceable history, stories of a bygone era, and its everlasting significance in the hearts of the people of Xiluo.
The construction of Xiluo Dong Market utilized leftover materials from the building of the Xiluo Bridge during the U.S. aid period. It stands as a testament to the industrial history of the Xiluo area from the late Qing Dynasty, Japanese rule, through the post-WWII period and the development of the Yanping Historical District. It is also closely tied to the daily lives of the locals and forms part of their historical memory.
It’s truly a pity that some of the structures in Dong Market, which has existed since the Japanese colonial period, have been damaged.
Dong Market now embraces a retro vibe, with some creative cultural industries also setting up shop, further enhancing the fun of visiting.
Time may change everything, but let’s not forget what it once gave.
I love traveling with kids to help them discover new things — perhaps that’s the most fun part of traveling.
This place is like a treasure hunt, where memories of the past feel as vivid as yesterday.

The hardworking people of Xiluo also bring endless emotion to the whole trip.
Of course, Xiluo’s old street is also worth strolling through. The diverse architectural styles bear witness to a page of Xiluo’s history.
The soy sauce of Xiluo town is fragrant throughout Taiwan and has created a glorious chapter in the story of Xiluo soy sauce. For family trips, you can visit the Maruzo Soy Sauce Museum and Rueichun Soy Sauce Tourist Factory on Yanping Old Street. Click below for travel notes.

Rueichun Soy Sauce, home to the largest soy sauce urn field in Taiwan, follows traditional methods using black beans for pure fermentation. With craftsmanship and wisdom in hand-brewed techniques, it was founded in 1921. The first batch of richly flavored soy paste was made with black beans and the muddy rice of Xiluo, sold along the streets of Xiluo, laying the foundation for a century-long business.

Founded in 1982, the Buddha Art & Beauty Society aims to preserve Taiwan’s temple worship culture, promote the origins and stories of deities, as well as the meaning of worshipping gods, embodying the spirit of religious virtue, and actively advocating modern Buddhist aesthetic art in daily life. Of course, this might be a bit profound for children, but as a blogger focused on family travel, I always hope that kids can benefit from different travel experiences as they grow up.

Just off Highway No. 1, take the Xiluo Interchange and head toward Dapu—within 200 meters, you’ll find a playful old neighborhood park. Designed in collaboration with local children's book illustrator Mahha, the Xiluo Pitu 3D Picture Book Park isn’t large, but makes for a great side trip. It’s a lovely place to sample local traditional snacks while enjoying a touch of childlike joy.
