Join nice papa for fun in Yunlin’s Xiluo — visit Yanping Old Street, Dong Market, Maruzo Soy Sauce Museum, Rueichun Soy Sauce Sightseeing Factory, Buddha Beauty Myth Story Museum, and Xiluo Pitou Picture Book Park.
When it comes to Xiluo, one must mention the Xiluo Bridge. Spanning 1,939 meters, the bridge was originally designed by the Japanese but construction was delayed due to the outbreak of the Pacific War. After the war, with funding and technology from U.S. aid, it was finally completed in 1953. It became a vital north-south transportation hub and also witnessed the history of the Republic of China in Taiwan. Although the “Xizhou Bridge” was built in 1992, what remains today is not only the magnificent structure itself, but also an irreplaceable history, stories of a pivotal era, and the eternal significance it holds in the hearts of the people of Xiluo.
The construction of Xiluo Dong Market used leftover materials from the building of Xiluo Bridge during the U.S. aid period. It bears witness to the industrial history of the Xiluo area from the end of the Qing Dynasty, through Japanese rule, and up to the post-war period, as well as the development of the Yanping Historic District. It is also closely tied to the daily lives of the people of Xiluo and forms part of their historical memory.
The Dong Market has existed since the Japanese colonial period, and it’s truly a pity that some of the buildings have been damaged.
Dong Market is now embracing a retro style, and has also seen the addition of some creative cultural industries, which further enhance the joy of visiting.
Time may change everything, but let’s not forget the contributions it once made.
I love traveling with kids, allowing them to discover new and different things. Maybe that’s the best part about traveling.
This place is like a treasure hunt, where memories of the past feel as vivid as scenes from yesterday.

And the hardworking people of Xiluo also bring boundless emotion to the entire travel experience.
Of course, Xiluo’s old streets are also worth exploring. The diverse architectural styles bear witness to a page of Xiluo’s history.
The soy sauce of Xiluo Town is fragrant throughout Taiwan and has also created a glorious chapter for Xiluo soy sauce. For family travelers, you can visit the Maruzo Soy Sauce Museum and Rueichun Soy Sauce Sightseeing Factory on Yanping Old Street. Feel free to click the travelogue below.

Rueichun Soy Sauce operates the largest soy sauce jar production site in the nation, adhering to traditional methods with pure black bean fermentation and handcrafted brewing wisdom. Established in 1921, it created its first richly flavored soy sauce paste using black beans and the muddy water rice of Xiluo, selling it along Xiluo’s main street, thus laying the foundation for a century-long business.

Founded in 1982, the Buddha Art & Beauty Society was established to preserve Taiwan’s temple worship culture, promote the origins and stories of deities, as well as the meaning of worshiping gods, and to embody the spirit of religious teachings that encourage kindness. The society also actively promotes modern Buddhist aesthetic art in daily life. While this might be a bit profound for children, as a travel blogger focused on family trips, I always hope kids can benefit from diverse cultural experiences during their travels, which may positively influence their growth.

Just off National Freeway No. 1, exit at the Xiluo Interchange and drive less than 200 meters toward Dapu, you’ll find a quaint old neighborhood filled with childlike charm—the Xiluo Pitu 3D Picture Book Park, a collaboration with local illustrator Ma Ha, known for her children's books about Xiluo.
